NVIDIA graphics card users urged to update driver immediately
Nvidia has alerted owners of all its graphics card series, including GeForce, RTX, Quadro, NVS, and Tesla, about significant driver security vulnerabilities. These vulnerabilities are detailed in a recently published security bulletin that identifies eight driver flaws, all rated with “High” severity.
If you possess an Nvidia GPU, it is crucial to update your drivers without delay. Some of these vulnerabilities affect both Windows and Linux operating systems, which means that Linux users also need to perform an update. To fix these vulnerabilities, Nvidia suggests that users download the latest GPU drivers for both Windows and Linux. For Windows users, the GeForce 566.03 driver (and subsequent versions) includes resolutions for these issues. This driver was made available on October 20th.
The currently recommended driver versions by the company include:
- Windows: 566.03/553.24/538.95 (GeForce, RTX, Quadro, NVS); 553.24/538.95 (Tesla)
- Linux: 565.57.01/550.127.05/535.216.01 (GeForce, RTX, Quadro, NVS); 550.127.05/535.216.01 (Tesla)

Nvidia has indicated that attackers could exploit these driver vulnerabilities to compromise users' systems and execute harmful code. This could result in the theft of sensitive information, unauthorized alterations to systems, and other dangerous activities. Therefore, it is essential for all Nvidia users to urgently update their drivers.
Nvidia GPU owners can access the company’s latest GPU drivers on their Driver Downloads page. As is customary, Nvidia has not included these security fixes in their driver release notes, limiting the accessibility of their security bulletin and its information. The absence of disclosure in this important section diminishes the coverage of this news and leaves many Nvidia users unaware of these vulnerabilities. Is Nvidia prioritizing its brand image over security concerns? Possibly. In the future, these disclosures should also be inserted into their driver release notes, not just on their support page.
