N1X CPU Performance Rivals AMD and Intel in New Leak
Geekbench scores for a laptop featuring Nvidia's N1X processor from HP have surfaced online, revealing the performance of Nvidia’s inaugural ARM-based laptop CPU. The initial report from Videocardz highlighted both the single-threaded and multi-threaded performance metrics.
Nvidia's NX1 CPU utilizes 20 ARM-based CPU cores organized in a big.LITTLE architecture. It reportedly incorporates 10 Cortex-X925 cores alongside 10 Cortex-A725 cores. The benchmark results shown were run on a Linux platform using what seems to be a system with 128GB of RAM. It's important to note that the CPU's stated clock speed of 2.81 GHz probably does not represent the actual operating frequencies of Nvidia's processor.

From these results, Nvidia demonstrates single-threaded performance that is comparable to that of top-tier x86 laptop CPUs. In contrast, Nvidia’s performance in multi-threading appears to be lacking. It's also worth mentioning that the benchmarks for Nvidia’s N1X were conducted on Linux, making a direct comparison with Windows-based Geekbench scores somewhat misleading.
Nvidia’s N1X processor combines the firm’s GPU and AI technologies with an ARM architecture. With this approach, Nvidia aims to increase its presence in the premium notebook market, a goal that Qualcomm has pursued for several years through its ARM-based Windows devices.
If Nvidia successfully penetrates the PC market, it could disrupt the established dominance of AMD and Intel. While Qualcomm produces PC SoCs, its market share has been minimal, and its devices often face challenges regarding software compatibility, particularly in gaming. Nvidia could potentially overcome these obstacles with improved GPU drivers, thus positioning its upcoming products as excellent options for ARM-based gaming on PCs.
