This story-rich card adventure is free to keep through Epic this week

Claim a story-driven card adventure free with Epic Games’ latest giveaway

The Epic Games Store has refreshed its weekly free game promotion once again, replacing last week's giveaways with a new title for players to claim. Echo Generation and Luto are no longer available, and after several weeks of handing out two games at a time, Epic has returned to offering a single freebie. This week's featured title is Foretales, which can be added to your Epic Games Store library permanently as long as you claim it within the next seven days.

Developed by Alkemi, Foretales blends narrative adventure with card-based gameplay rather than following the traditional deck-building formula. Set in a fantasy world facing imminent destruction, the game challenges players to make the most of their limited time while navigating difficult moral decisions. Every choice can influence both the journey and its outcome, creating multiple paths through the story.

Cards aren't reserved solely for combat, either. They can also be used to negotiate with characters, sneak past enemies, solve encounters peacefully, and uncover new areas. That broader approach helps distinguish Foretales from genre staples like Slay the Spire, placing just as much emphasis on storytelling and player choice as strategic card play.

The game has been well received by Steam players since its launch. It currently holds a "Very Positive" user rating based on more than 700 reviews, with many praising its unique combination of branching narratives and flexible gameplay. Players have also highlighted the freedom to approach situations in different ways instead of relying exclusively on combat. Some reviews are more critical, however, arguing that the gameplay loop can become repetitive over extended sessions and that the card mechanics aren't as deep as those found in dedicated deck-building games.

Anyone interested in trying Foretales can claim it free of charge through the Epic Games Store until July 30. Once redeemed, the game remains in your account permanently, even after the promotion ends. Epic has also revealed what's coming next. When the current giveaway expires, it will be replaced by two free games instead of one. Beginning on July 30, players will be able to claim copies of OTXO and Sol Cesto, continuing the storefront's long-running tradition of weekly giveaways with another pair of PC titles ready to add to their libraries.
