8BitDo’s Arcade Controller Pro brings retro style and modern features

8BitDo’s latest arcade controller combines retro charm with modern features

8BitDo is expanding its arcade controller lineup with the new Arcade Controller Pro, introducing a more compact button layout designed to help players execute inputs quickly and accurately. While it retains the general arrangement of the original Arcade Controller, the Pro model uses smaller buttons and tighter spacing to make rapid inputs and transitions more convenient.

The controller features a tempered glass faceplate with 17 buttons, alongside input-mode switches and additional shortcuts along the top edge. Five programmable buttons, labeled P1 through P5, can be remapped on the fly using a built-in display powered by the controller's internal hardware and 8BitDo's Ultimate Software. This allows players to adjust their configurations without relying entirely on a separate computer.

Several practical accessories are included, too. A magnetic wrist rest provides additional support and incorporates lock caps that cover the P1-P5 buttons to prevent accidental presses. The quick-release glass panel also conceals a keycap and switch removal tool, along with three spare switches for replacements or customization.

Underneath the faceplate, the Arcade Controller Pro uses low-profile Core Green linear mechanical switches developed in collaboration with Kailh. They follow the Choc V2 standard, potentially allowing users to experiment with compatible tactile or clicky alternatives. Through 8BitDo Ultimate Software V2, players can also configure button mappings, RGB lighting, macros, and simultaneous opposite cardinal direction (SOCD) behavior. A built-in SOCD cleaning function and tournament lock provide additional options for competitive play.

Connectivity includes low-latency 2.4GHz wireless and Bluetooth, with the latter supporting Nintendo Switch and Android devices. However, battery life over 2.4GHz is rated at up to 15 hours with RGB lighting disabled. Two USB-C ports provide flexibility when connecting the controller by cable, while the rear port features an integrated metal cable lock to help prevent accidental disconnections.

The 8BitDo Arcade Controller Pro is available for preorder through Amazon and 8BitDo for $119.99 / €107.10 / £89.74. Buyers can choose between a white version and a black-and-red color scheme. The official launch is scheduled for November 30, 2026, when preorder shipments are also expected to begin.
