Tomb Raider turns 30 as 8BitDo launches two commemorative controllers

8BitDo is joining the Tomb Raider 30th anniversary celebrations with two limited-edition controllers inspired by Lara Croft and the long-running adventure series. The company has given its Ultimate 3 Controller for Xbox and Pro 3 Bluetooth Gamepad completely different Tomb Raider-themed designs, with both models scheduled to launch on October 24.

The 8BitDo Ultimate 3 Controller for Xbox Tomb Raider 30th Anniversary Edition takes inspiration from Lara Croft herself. Its golden yellow shell features silhouettes of Lara from different eras of the franchise, while black thumbsticks, triggers, shoulder buttons, and rear buttons provide a contrasting finish. The action buttons are also black, although their letters are picked out in yellow, while the D-pad gets a matching gold treatment.

Its wireless charging dock follows the same color scheme and includes various symbols from the Tomb Raider universe alongside the 30th anniversary logo. In terms of functionality, the special edition offers the same features as the existing Lavender and Mossy Lagoon Ultimate 3 variants.

The Xbox-focused controller is priced at $119.99 (around €103 / £89), making it $20 more expensive than the standard special-color editions, which sell for $99.99. It is already available for preorder through the 8BitDo eShop and will work with Xbox consoles over 2.4GHz wireless or wired connections. Windows PCs support the same connection options, while Android and Apple devices can use Bluetooth.

Meanwhile, the 8BitDo Pro 3 Bluetooth Gamepad Tomb Raider 30th Anniversary Edition takes a more environmental approach. Its sandstone-colored body is based on the Lost Valley level from the original 1996 Tomb Raider, with creeping vines, Atlantean symbols, and geometric patterns covering the exterior.

The controller combines that muted yellow body with a bright yellow D-pad and gray buttons and thumbsticks. It also comes with four interchangeable joystick caps, including two green ball-top caps and two additional yellow designs. Its charging dock uses a rocky gray finish decorated with green vegetation and the Tomb Raider logo.

The Pro 3 special edition is priced at $79.99 (around €69 / £59) and can be preordered through Amazon and the 8BitDo eShop ahead of its October 24 release.
