The Lord of the Rings saga was thought to be a story completely told, then Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor came to be, and proved that there were still stories to tell in the land of Middle-Earth. And now, its sequel will bring an even grander story to the fold, as Middle-earth: Shadow of War is coming. Still set in the land of Mordor, you'll play once again as the human Ranger known as Talion, who is still fused with the spirit of Elf lord Celebrimbor. They have completed their quest to make a new ring of power, one that could challenge Sauron and finally defeat him. Now, they set out to amass an army within Mordor, and destroy the cursed realm once and for all. Middle-earth: Shadow of War builds upon everything the original game did, by giving you not only grand battles to partake in, but to build up your army in a very personal way via the Nemesis system. Now, you'll be able to go into even more detail as you build up your generals via interactions with them. But even more than that, while the first game was more a hack-n-slash affair, Middle-earth: Shadow of War will give you a deep RPG experience to allow you more personal choices for who you are and how you fight in battle. All of which ties into a narrative that'll make you rethink everything you know about Middle-Earth.

Middle-Earth: Shadow of War does not rest on the success of its predecessor, on the contrary, here are the novelties present in this opus:

    • The Nemesis system. Although present in the first entry, the Nemesis system, which contributed to the success of the game, is even more present in Middle-Earth: Shadow of War. As a reminder, the Nemesis system allows you to get information about your opponents, but not only that. It establishes a hierarchy among the Urucks. In addition, all your actions towards an enemy will be decisive for the rest of the game. Each character is unique, and if you do not take care of your troops, nothing prevents them from turning against you.. Now with the Nemesis system you can create your own army, and name a new overlord as the head of the fortresses you will take. But you must choose, because depending on the tribe of the orc that you select, the fortress, and also the region can be transformed, to the image of the new leader.

    • The environment. While Shadow of Mordor was confined to two regions, vast, however, Middle-Earth: Shadow of War goes further, proposing the player to continue his journey beyond the lands of Mordor. You will have the opportunity to visit Osgiliath or to go to Minas Morgul. In addition, you will find in each region a fortress led by a Warlord, (or Overlord). By storming these fortresses you will also take control of the entire area.

    •

      • Fortress Assault. Fortress assault is a central gameplay element in Middle Earth: Shadow of War. Thanks to the new ring of power forged by Talion, you will be able to subdue your enemies and make them join the ranks of your army. And with your army, you will have to storm the strongholds of each region and eliminate its overlord to take control, and thus weaken Sauron. But you will have to adapt for each assault because the overlord will have special powers depending on its tribe of origin. For example, it may prevent you from using certain abilities from your ring, forcing you to adapt your strategy. By subduing commanders and non-commissioned officers, you can have them join your ranks, but also create spies to infiltrate another fortress. Indeed, you can place spies in order to get through the defenses of your enemies. These spies can also be very useful for preparing the taking of the fortres, for example by placing explosives at strategic points. But that's not all, your power is not limited to the orcs, you can take control of any enemy unit, ¡like a dragon! Once the fortress is under your control, you will need to carefully pick one of your henchmen to make it the new overlord. Choose well, because you may see him join the ranks of Sauron.

      • Skills. Always accompanied by Celebrimbor to assist you in battles, Middle-Earth: Shadow of War battles are more dynamic than ever thanks to a new skill tree. Players preferring infiltration will be pleased, because this style of game has been greatly improved to allow more possibilities. In the Talent Tree, you'll find the Predator branch offering skills such as Spectral Sequence, allowing you to chain a series of assassinations, Spectral Race, that allows you to move fast over short distances, or Contagion, that lets you poison your enemies and have them attack anyone nearby.

      • Equipment. Of course, to face the forces of Sauron, you will need equipment worthy of the name. To recover powerful weapons, you will have to defeat high-ranking enemies. You can upgrade your weapons by taking on challenges. In addition, Epic weapons have special abilities that can be unlocked by performing a specific action. The Rohirrim Dagger can, for example, benefit from a 25% bonus for stealth attacks on burning enemies. Runes and gems can be equipped on your pieces of armor and on your weapons to give you several and varied bonuses. To add gems to your equipment, you will need to buy slots to insert them and enjoy their effect. For runes, you can improve them just as the weapons, through challenges. In addition, you will find different sets of equipment conferring bonuses also. You will get better bonuses, by equipping a certain number of pieces of these sets.

There will be micro-transactions. Despite the reassuring words of the devs who assure that they are doing the game experience tests without activating them, and that they won't interfere with the gameplay, the fact remains that they are keeping the function. So either you'll buy in-game to be screwed because it won't give you any advantage, or it will give you some anyway and so the game experience will be well and truly transformed into a Pay to Win...
